DAY TRIPS

We have many options for day trips starting in Arusha or Moshi. Read about some of the day trips below. Some of these trips can be combined to create a day to remember.

Kikuletwa Maji Moto (CHEMKA)

Located in Boma N’gombe, 35 km outside of Moshi you will find beautiful clear blue water for swimming and relaxing. There is a rope swing to jump into the deep pool of water and rocks for sunbathing on.

Ngarony Bee Farm

Here you will tour a local bee farm that harvests honey to support the entire community. With over 600 hives you will see how this couple starts each hive and cares for it daily to collect honey.

Mama Shoo Cultural Tourism Center

Here you will tour a traditional Chagga home and learn about how the Chagga tribe lives. You will see Chagga farming and animal husbandry as well as learn about how this family is using bio-gas from it’s cows to fuel their home. You will cook and eat a traditional Chagga lunch. The center also has opportunities to learn about batik making and Chagga dance and music.

Arusha National Park

Located about 20 km outside of Arusha town you will find this small national park with many varied ecosystems. Arusha National Park is home to Mt Meru, the Momela Lakes, Ngurdutu Crater, and lush forests. These varied areas provide home to giraffe, buffalo, zebra, monkey, and many antelope. Also on your day trip you can take a walking safari to breathtaking waterfall or drive to a very unique fig tree arching over the road.

Lake Chala

This crater lake in a caldera on the border of Kenya and Tanzania is located 55 km from Moshi. The lake which is fed by groundwaters from Mt Kilimanjaro is thought to be the deepest inland body of water in Africa. The lake is home to the near extinct Lake Chala Tilapia. A walking tour of Lake Chala will allow you to see a variety of species of birds, plants, and monkeys.

Lake Manyara National Park

130 km West of Arusha lies Lake Manyara National Park. Lake Manyara, an alkaline soda lake, attracts over 400 species of birds and waterfowl. Lake Manyara is also famous for its tree-climbing lions, some of the only kind of this species in the world.

Kilimanjaro National Park

For those who wish to hike in Kilimanjaro National Park but do not want to climb to the summit we have a day hike in Kilimanjaro Naitonal Park just for you. Starting at Marangu gate, you will hike to Mandara hut (about 3-4 hours walk), eat lunch, explore Maundi carter, and then descend to Marangu gate.

Sinya Wildlife Conservancy

Located in the slopes of Kilimanjaro, bordering Kenya's Amboselli National Park, this wildlife conservancy area is known for it's views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru, and spectacular wildlife viewing. Here you will find elephant bulls over 50 years old with amazing tusks, zebra, wildebeest, giraffe, and gazelle. You may even spot the lesser seen kudu or oryx. Sinya is also great for birdwatchers. 

Lend a Hand to Tanzania

Encounter African Safaris partners with many local organizations to help the community. You will have the opportunity to visit a local school, orphanage, or children's home to tour and lend a hand for the day.
